Excitement is growing as Lacombe gets set to be the host of Rogers Hometown Hockey this weekend.

A family friendly hockey festival with live music, activities, and appearances from former NHLer’s like Darcy Tucker, Fernando Pisani, and Lord Stanley’s Cup, will take over Lacombe’s historic downtown.

As part of the fun, the Lacombe Generals rescheduled their game with the Innisfail Eagles early on in the season, so the team and its fans could be showcased and mentioned by Sportsnet’s Ron MacLean and Tara Sloan.

Generals Forward Brett Robertson says he and the players are more excited for the fans and City, than to have part of their game highlighted on National Television.

“It’s going to be cool for the City to get a chance to showcase lots of the hockey history in this town, and what makes Lacombe special to everyone that lives here. So, it’s going to be great representing Lacombe, and show everyone what we’re all about.”

It may be an exciting time for you and I, but Gens Head Coach Sean Robertson says Hometown Hockey hasn’t even been on their radar.

“It hasn’t even been talked about. We haven’t even brought it up, and we’re more focused on Saturday night to be honest. I’ve thought about it as a coach, it’s a quick turnaround playing late Saturday then early Sunday. So, we’ll put our heads together, and do some brainstorming to come up with some ideas to help our chances.”

They’ll finish up the regular season this weekend with both games at home, 7:30 Saturday night then 11 Sunday morning.

Events for Rogers Hometown Hockey begin Saturday at noon.
