The Lacombe Generals are the 2018 Senior AAA Provincial Champions.  After a 4-3 overtime loss in Game 2, the Generals poured it on to win the next three games with decisive 7-2, 7-3, and 6-1 victories to take the series against the Stony Plain Eagles 4-1.  Gens forward Dylan Nowakowski said that early defeat was the turning point for the team.

“They gave us a good run at the beginning. I feel like as the series went on, Game 2 we kind of fell asleep there at the end and they snuck one past us and won that one but I feel like after that it was kind of a wake up call and we figured it out after that.”

Nowakowski explained that the Generals’ depth was the biggest factor in their dominance this round.

“Everyone played their role. We didn’t have any passengers. It’s tough when four lines contribute and they couldn’t keep up with us. We could tell during the series they just got tired because we were just relentless.”

The next stop for the team is the Allan Cup tournament where they will meet the host team and league rival Rosetown Redwings in their first matchup on Tuesday April 10.  Nowakowski says that with the momentum they’ve built through the playoffs, they are ready.

“I think we’re going in pretty confident right now after playing two series and only losing one game. I think we’re a confident group right now and we’re going to be pretty dangerous.”

With the championship win, the Generals will be in the mood to celebrate and ladies have a chance to do so with the team on Saturday night (Mar 24) at the Black & Gold Moth Ball at the LMC.  Limited tickets are still available for this ladies night fundraiser and proceeds will help offset costs for the Generals Allan Cup journey to Rosetown.  More details can be found on the Lacombe Generals Facebook page.
