Head Coach Sean Robertson says after facing each other several times in league play, the close game came as no surprise.

“That was a fast paced, hard hitting, great game, it was fast, both goaltenders were good, lots of chances both ways, it was kind of what we expected”.

Speaking of hard hitting, the Gens Kyle Bailey was hurt in the 3rd period and didn’t return to the game, Rosetown’s Nathan Lutz took a major, a penalty the Redwings managed to kill.

Dylan Nowakowski, who’s playing in his first Allan Cup, was named player of the game for the Generals, a distinction he didn’t feel he deserved.

“I didn’t expect it, I thought it should have been ‘Stany’ (Steven Stanford), our goalie, so I don’t know I feel kind of guilty having it, cause he stood on his head all night”.

In terms of tonight’s game against the Stoney Creek Generals, Nowakowski and Robertson agree on where improvements need to be made.

“Our starts need to be better, I think we had a couple of nerves at the beginning, and we’ll get that sorted out, and then we just turned too many pucks over in the neutral zone, we need to get behind their D, once we got behind their D we just worked them low, I think that’s how we need to be successful the rest of the tournament”, the sentiment from Nowakowski.

“I think we need a better start, I don’t think we started the 1st period as well as we can, we’re the kind of team that builds momentum as we go, but if we don’t get a good start we shoot ourselves in the foot.  You can’t win the game the 1st period but you can almost lose it right”, thoughts from Robertson.

The Stoney Creek Generals played to a 3-3 tie with Rosetown on Monday night.

Puck drop is 8 pm.
