Lacombe Dodgers kicked off their season in style with an 11-1 win over the Airdrie Brewers on Sunday.

After winning the Parkland Baseball League championship last year, player-manager Andre Touchette said he was happy to get the first win out of the way.

“We kind of started a little bit slow, but our pitchers did really well and then we finally got the bats going in the last couple of innings and came out with the win today.”

After a long winter, there was sure to be a little of rust on both sides of the ball, something veteran pitcher Myles Shaw admitted to.

“I felt a little rusty, I mean it’s early, but I felt good. It was nice to get back with the boys,” said Shaw.

Shaw said defending their PBL title is something he is really looking forward to.

“We always have fun, but being defending champs, it’s fun to come back and try to repeat.”

Dodgers return to action Wednesday night when they host Innisfail Trappers.

“They’re a good team and have always been strong. They’re similar to us, they have a core group that they’ve had for a long time, but our pitchers need to throw strikes and hopefully our bats can come through," said Touchette.

Game time is 6:45 p.m. at Michener Park.
