Central Alberta Buccaneers are gearing up for another season and with just over three weeks to go from the start of the regular season, excitement is growing.

The team’s only loss last year came in the championship game against the Fort McMurray Monarchs, but slot back/wide receiver Xavier Lawrence remains humble about expectations.

“Our main expectation this year is just to be out here and have fun and get more guys in the community to come and play for us,” said Lawrence.

“Obviously, you want to win, but that’s not our main goal this year.”

The team will open the regular season on the road in Grand Prairie against the Drillers on May 27th, something offensive lineman Vince Roth said he’s excited about.

“It will be kind of different opening up on the road, it’s the only distant trip of the year so we’ll spend some time up in Grand Prairie so I think it will be beneficial to us, to be able to bond as a team.”

Bucs return to Lacombe for their home-opener on June 3rd against the Lloydminster Vandals.

The eighth annual Bucs Day to Tackle Hunger will take place on May 13, where the team will collect as much food as they can in the community.
