Kids aging from 5 to 12 years old tested their physical ability this past weekend in Blackfalds.

Saturday was a busy day for athletes at the Abbey Centre, as they held their first ever triathlon.

Their Super Kids Triathlon included running, biking and swimming on the trails around the Abbey Centre and in the Jr. Olympic pool.

Event organizer Carol Simpson said the day was all about fun and nothing else.

“When you start a new sport, especially a sport like triathlon it often intimidates people so we wanted it to be fun, we wanted it to be welcoming. That’s why we had it non-competitive and we didn’t have any timing components.”

“We just wanted the kids to come and be exposed to it and have a really fun time.”

Simpson said they couldn’t have asked for a better day.

“It went really well, we were happy with the turnout. The weather of course, played a major role in that, we had awesome volunteers who really got into the superhero theme.”

“We’ve heard positive feedback and we’re really excited for it being our first year.”

Over 60 kids were registered for the event, travelling in from all over Central Alberta including Lacombe, Blackfalds, Sylvan Lake and Red Deer.
