Two junior golfers are receiving National media attention after making history at the Gull Lake Golf Course.

10-year-old Koehn Yeske and his 8-year-old sister Kali both hit a hole-in-one on the fourth hole last week, just days apart.

Koehn was the youngest player to get a hole in one at the course, before his sister accomplished the same feat four days later.

“I wasn’t playing very good, so I was pretty happy I got it in,” said Koehn.

“It hit the pin, so I wasn’t sure if it went in or not, but I couldn’t really see it. I kind of thought it was in,” said Kali.

Once they realized their accomplishment, that’s when the excitement hit.

“I was really really excited, like super excited,” said Kali.

“Well I threw my club and I had to dodge it because I was too happy and wasn’t looking.”

The family lives in Calgary, but spends their summers at Meridian Beach, and the experience is something their mom Shawna says is something they will never forget.

“When he (Koehn) told us he got one, I honestly didn’t believe him at first, I thought he was pulling our leg. He wasn’t and we were quite excited about that,” said Shawna.

“When they were golfing on Saturday night as part of their regular junior league, a family had come off the course ahead of them and said ‘we’ve heard some girls screaming that they got a hole-in-one’ and we joked that it would be funny if that was Kali. Sure enough she came off the course and she said ‘guess what I did?’ and we just about died, we couldn’t believe it.”

Koehn and Kali will have their names added to a plaque beside LGPA legend Sandra Palmer, who was the last player to hit a hole-in-one at the course.

The 1975 US Women’s Open Champion hit an ace during the Gull Lake Pro-Am tournament in mid-July.
