For YEARS, I refused to embrace the green smoothie. I would see pictures and immediately turn my nose up at the entire idea! HOW could a smoothie that looks like a blended salad taste good! I quickly learned that just because it looks green, doesn't mean it always tastes green. When making a smoothie and including greens, I find balancing it out with sweeter ingredients makes all the difference.

 

Here is my magical green smoothie recipe, it looks healthy and tastes amazing!!

1 cup of frozen spinach or kale

1 frozen banana

1/2 cup fruit of your choice (I choose frozen mango or raspberries usually)

2 cups of coconut water

1 scoop vegan protein powder 

4 dates

1 tbsp each of flaxseed and chia seeds

1 tbsp natural peanut butter

1 cup of water (or as much as you want to add, I dont use a ton because I enjoy a thicker consistency to my smoothies)

Over time, I have learned the key to smoothies is trying lots of different variations to the ingredients you use. I learned I love raspberries in some, and I don't like it in others. As you make more and more, you will learn the combos you most enjoy and then can switch it up whenever you need to. The best part about smoothies, is you can prep 5 for the entire week and store them in your freezer, taking them out, blend and pack them for wherever you are heading for the week!
