One man in Sylvan Lake is facing multiple charges after he fled from police on June 17th. Originally, officers had tried to nab the suspect, but he drove away and his vehicle was seen at the Easthill shopping complex in south Red Deer on Thursday. 

As officers arrived on scene, the suspect ran away on foot and was caught by RCMP. During the arrest, one RCMP officer was injured and was sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. 

33-year-old Kyle Hardstad of Sylvan Lake was found to be in possession of meth and cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and had a loaded shotgun and additional ammo. 

Now, Harstad faces numerous charges and remains in RCMP custody.

From Red Deer RCMP:

Early yesterday morning, Red Deer RCMP arrested and charged a male with numerous possession and firearms related charges.

Shortly after midnight on June 18, the suspect’s vehicle was spotted at the Easthill shopping complex after it had fled from police on June 17.

When police arrived at the shopping complex, the male driver fled on foot.

Police pursued on foot and apprehended the male who was found to be in possession of a loaded shotgun, ammunition and illicit drugs (methamphetamine and cocaine) for the purposes of trafficking.

During the foot pursuit, one member of the Red Deer RCMP sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.

The male suspect was not injured.

33-year-old Kyle Harstad of Sylvan Lake is in custody and faces the following charges:

·         Two charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking

·         Possession of the proceeds of crime

·         Three firearms-related charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm

·         Operation of a motor vehicle while prohibited

·         Three counts of breach of release

·         Two counts of resisting arrest
