According to the Town of Sylvan Lake, the existing Centennial Park playground structure is showing signs of wear and tear - leading to concerns about safety, and long-term sustainability.

Communications Coordinator for the Town Joanne Gaudet said the structure sees a lot of use from community members, and they simply want the next park to be even more well-loved.

"We are in the process of developing our project plan for the replacement structure. before we went and di that, we wanted to get some feedback from Sylvan Lakers on some of those outstanding details and what they'd like to see in the playground, some of their playground priorities and just opinions on what makes a great playground," she said.

The Town is encouraging parents, caregivers and of course, future users of the park, to get involved and give their opinions through an online survey.

Gaudet said the Town will also look at incorporating accessible features into the new park to accommodate for limited mobility users.

"Accessibility is just kind of an expectation at this point - ensuring those with mobility needs, such as a stroller or wheelchair, have at least some level of access. We have to kind of discuss that further with our consultant, once we close the request for proposals," she explained.

"Whether you have children, or whether you're a caretaker of a child or not - maybe you just like to use the playground - go online, fill it out and let us know what you think. Maybe chat with your kids, hear what some of their thoughts are and get back to us," Gaudet said.

Take the Centennial Park Playground Redevelopment Survey before March 6, 2020.
