Blue Cart Ambassadors are coming to Red Deer starting on Monday, to assess local households on their recycling habits. The RCA Ambassadors are post-secondary students hired by the Recycling Council of Alberta to support waste reduction projects.

“The cart program has been in single-family homes for a few years now, and last year we provided enhanced recycling information and tools to multi-family properties in the city,” said Marilyn Moore, Waste Diversion Specialist with The City. “Now we want to assess how households are recycling to determine how we can improve our recycling programs and our service to residents.”

Ambassadors will be looking in Blue Carts and attaching notes to let households know how they are doing. A gold star means the household is doing a great job and everything in the cart is accepted in the program. If a cart contains non-accepted items such as Styrofoam or plastic shopping bags, the household will receive a note to remind them how to sort their waste and to direct them to the City’s online waste sorting tool.
