The investigation into this incident remains open, and Ponoka and Maskwacis RCMP are asking anyone with information to come forward.

From Ponoka RCMP:

A carjacking on August 8 led the police into a brief pursuit, and the apprehension of one of the suspects.

At 12:02 a.m., Ponoka RCMP responded to a 911 call that unknown suspects had just stolen a car from four people who were getting gas. While stopped to get gas, another car was at the station and two males exited that car.

One of the suspects presented what was believed to be a shotgun and demanded the victim’s car. Before driving away, the suspect hit one of the victims, causing minor injury.

The two male suspects in the stolen car fled towards Maskwacis.  The original car that the suspects arrived in also left the gas station, northbound on Highway 2A.

At approximately 1:00 a.m., Maskwacis RCMP located the stolen vehicle which failed to stop for the RCMP.

A brief pursuit ensued and the vehicle lost control and crashed in the ditch at the corner of Bobtail Road and Highway 2A.

One male was immediately arrested, and the second male fled on foot on the train tracks. Police Dog Services was deployed, however, he was not located.
