A man from Lacombe County has been charged in relation to a break and enter, and the theft of an ATM in Lyalta, a small community just northwest of Strathmore.

On February 20, 2020, the Mercantile at Muirfield, a convenience store near Lyalta in Wheatland County, was broken into.

The suspects drove a truck through the building causing damage estimated at up to $20,000 as well as severely damaging a rental truck.

After driving through the front of the store, the suspect stole the ATM. It was recovered a short time later having been smashed open.

The Strathmore RCMP investigation has led to the identification of one of the culprits.

Mark Kendrick Jacobson, 35, of Lacombe County, has been charged with one count of Break and Enter to commit theft, two additional charges of mischief to property exceeding $5,000, and one count of identity fraud.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
