Coming up on Monday, May 8th, Lacombe Minor Baseball Association (LMBA)  will be having their opening ceremonies.

LMBA President, Shannon Bruns talks about the opening night.

“We are going to have an opening ceremony on May 8th. We will have some special guests from Royal Oak coming down to spectate, a live performance of the national anthem, and lot’s of other fun events planned for that event.”

As far as baseball is concerned Bruns says they will have 2 of the 13 teams playing as a showcase for the night.

Although this is the opening for the season,  the teams have already been busy. “Some of the teams have played exhibition games and thanks to our city workers and volunteers we were able to get the diamonds prepped and ready early this season.”

As far as the popularity of baseball Bruns says this is a special year.

“We have a record number this year with the largest number of players ever in the history of Lacombe Minor Baseball. We are actually carrying over 11 community teams, 3 double-a teams, and we have 15 teams in U9. There are over 280 players registered with Lacombe Minor Baseball.”

The opening day ceremony will be held on diamond 11 at Michener Park. The ceremony will start at 6:15
