Lacombe City Council approved new Public Engagement Enhancements allowing residents to more frequently connect with Council.

These changes to the Public Engagement Plan allow Council to engage with residents in various new ways to ensure timely critical feedback can be provided.

“Our citizens expect City Council to be ready, able and willing to discuss various municipal issues,” Mayor Grant Creasey said. “This plan allows for several innovative and exciting opportunities for Council to connect with residents on the important issues in our community – and maybe even have a little fun while we are at it.”

The annual Public Engagement Plan has typically included Coffee with Council sessions that provide direct access to Council members in an informal setting. To ensure these events remain relevant and effective, Administration discussed opportunities for growth with Council at their April 3, 2023, Committee of the Whole Meeting.

Based on this feedback, Council approved the following enhancements to the Public Engagement Plan:

Local Significant Events: One to three Council members host the City booth at traffic-building community events like Light Up Lacombe or Lacombe Generals hockey games.

Changes to the Traditional Coffee with Council Sessions: The Fall Active Living Fair and the Lacombe and District Chamber of Commerce Tradeshow

Council Pancake Breakfast: The City partners with a local non-profit organization to bring a Pancake breakfast to one of the City’s premiere events (i.e., Lacombe Days, Canada Day, Culture & Harvest Festival).

These changes will be included in Council’s 2024 Public Engagement Plan.
