A fire restriction has been issued for the County of Stettler following dry weather and high wind conditions.

The Stettler Regional Fire Department is advising residents to use extreme caution, only necessary burning will occur, always be aware of weather conditions, extinguish the fire if a change in weather increases the hazard of an open fire, ensure you have the appropriate equipment to properly extinguish a fire, and never leave a fire unattended.

Residents are asked to inspect their off-highway vehicles (OHV) frequently to ensure hot spots are free of debris and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.

At this time, no new fire permits will be issued, existing permit holders are allowed to complete burning within the permitted time using extreme caution, and essential burning in incinerators that are constructed of non-combustible material is allowed.

Backyard fire pits, safe wood campfires, portable fire pits, gas or propane stoves, and barbecues are permitted.

Conditions will continue to be monitored.
