Farmers and ranchers are set to open their doors to the public on August 19th and 20th for Open Farm Days, which has been happening since 2013.

Open Farms Days gives farmers and ranchers a chance to tell their story, and educate the public about the steps and processes that bring food from their fields to your tables.

Farms days is a collaborative project put on by the Alberta government, participating farms, ranches, and agricultural societies, Travel Alberta, as well as a few different  Ag groups, such as the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies, and Agriculture for Life.

Everything from crop production, to livestock maintenance, tours of their property, petting zoos, and opportunities to buy locally grown produce.

CEO of Agriculture for Life Luree Williamson says some people never get a chance to see what life on the farm is like.

“So many people now are removed from the farm. They live in urban centres or towns, and they are not involved in the primary production of agriculture. So it is a nice opportunity to go back, and learn a little bit more about what is life on the farm, what are we producing here in Alberta, do we export, what we import. So there are so many great questions we can ask, and to have the farmer right there having a conversation with you is fantastic.”
