Making the Grade is expanding to two locations this year. The workshop was highly successful last year and received lots of positive feedback.

The event is a hands-on grain grading workshop, which focuses on barley, canola, pulses, and wheat.

Jason Lanz, Alberta Barley Chair and Regional Representative for the Alberta Wheat Commission, says Making the Grade is a valuable tool in addressing knowledge gaps in grain grading.

"For producers, it's really important to know the grading standards that their looking at, and some of the possible things we can do in our field to prevent any sort of down grading of these crops."

Lanz adds, one of the highlights from previous years has been the opportunity for producers to interact with grain graders.

"The workshop allows producers to have those one-on-one conversations with graders, and see some good samples of grain, and some not so good samples of grain, and have it explained to them what the difference is."

The event is put on by Alberta Barley, Alberta Canola Producers Commission, Alberta Wheat Commission, and Alberta Pulse Growers.

For more information to register for the workshop are on each host commission's website.
