Farmers are still purchasing new equipment, even in Alberta's economic down times. The Ag industry is remaining strong as a separate entity in the economy.

Crops are looking great this year, peaking farmer's interests in new equipment. Paul Filkohazy, with High River John Deere Cervus Equipment, says there is particular interest in their combines.

"We've had quite a few early order combines. We do sell a lot of combines here and in Vulcan. We've probably sold eight or nine combines this year already, and trades are almost all gone."

Their more established customers are buying new equipment every one to two years.

The Canadian dollar has raised some concern in their company since all the equipment in from the U.S.

"Everything gets sold to us at U.S. dollar, so that's been a real struggle for us the last couple years. When your paying 35 cents on the dollar, it adds up quite a bit. A half a million dollar machine, and all of a sudden its a 700 thousand dollar machine. It makes a big difference."

Filkohazy says even with the dollar, Agriculture a good business to be in right now, and farming is here to stay.
