Spring seeding is right around the corner and a local charity growing project in support of the Canadian Foodgrains Bank is still seeking land for this year's crop.

The Central Alberta Growing Project is entering into its 22nd year, and Doug Maas with the group says they are open to a donation of land or they do pay cash rent, they're just hoping to lock up some land in Lacombe County "we'd hope to get a 1/4 section of land, but in some years it's been 120 acres or 135 acres, we'll take anything that we can get".

Maas says the landowner can be involved as much or as little with the project as they would like, "if the farmer wants to become part of it and do some of the work he can do that as well, but if he justs wants to rent the land and say it's yours, you arrange all the work and I'll tell you what to grow, then we can go with that as well because we have a very good base of volunteers".

With so much need in the world for food aid "especially in Africa right now because of drought and war there's a number of countries like Somalia that are really suffering so we want to do our part to help through the Canadian Foodgrains Bank" said Maas.

If you have some land that may work for their project, please contact Doug Maas at 403-782-1860.
