It was a chance to turn back the clock this past weekend and enjoy some old-school farming.

Almost 100 people showed up to Bill Johnson’s farm Saturday afternoon in Clive to watch 80-year-old Johnson run his 80-year-old threshing machine.

In just under two hours, Johnson and some of his friends threshed about 80 bushels of wheat over half of an acre.

Johnson has been running the demonstration four of the last five years and said it’s always nice bringing out the old equipment.

“It threshed every year from 1937 to 1963 and some years it would probably do six hundred acres. It’s always been kept inside and it just makes me feel good to hear it run again.”

Donations were accepted for the Canadian FoodGrains Bank, just under $200 was raised.

Johnson said it’s not much, but it still makes him feel good about giving back to those less-fortunate.

“It’s wonderful. It makes me feel good and it’s more blessed to give than to receive, what the bible says. I’m sorry I didn’t have the chance to visit with everybody, but it keeps me pretty busy, keeping that thing going.”

The event was sponsored by the Clive Athletic and Agriculture Society.
